TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING CENTRE PERTH

A CYCLONE WARNING is now current for a CATEGORY 4 CYCLONE for coastal areas
between De Grey and Exmouth and extending to adjacent inland parts. A CYCLONE
WATCH extends from Exmouth to Wooramel Roadhouse and includes the inland western
Pilbara and western Gascoyne.

At 2pm WST SEVERE TROPICAL CYCLONE GLENDA was estimated to be
 300 kilometres north northwest of Port Hedland and
 360 kilometres north northeast of Karratha
 and was moving west southwest at 14 kilometres per hour.

Communities along the Pilbara coast should be aware that SEVERE TROPICAL CYCLONE
GLENDA is expected to approach the coast later this afternoon and Thursday.
Gales with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour are expected to develop on the
Pilbara coast this evening with gusts increasing to 125 kilometres per hour
overnight. 

Residents of the central and west Pilbara coast are warned of the risk of very
destructive winds with gusts exceeding 250 kilometres per hour during Thursday
close to the centre as this very dangerous cyclone nears the coast.

                       Latitude 17.7 South Longitude 118.0 East.
  Recent movement    : West southwest at 14 kilometres per hour.
  Central Pressure   : 920 hPa.
  Maximum wind gusts : 265 kilometres per hour.
  Severity Category  : 4

FESA-State Emergency Service advises of the following alerts:
YELLOW ALERT: People in or near the communities of Point Samson, Wickham,
Roebourne, Karratha and Dampier should commence action in preparation for the
possibility of destructive winds.

TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING CENTRE PERTH

CORRECTED MESSAGE FOR FESA-State Emergency Service ALERTS.
A CYCLONE WARNING is now current for a SEVERE CATEGORY 4 CYCLONE for coastal
areas between De Grey and Minilya Roadhouse, extending inland to Tom Price,
Paraburdoo and Mount Augustus.

A CYCLONE WATCH extends south to Billabong Roadhouse and inland to Cue.

At 2am WST SEVERE TROPICAL CYCLONE GLENDA was estimated to be
 260 kilometres northwest of Port Hedland and
 215 kilometres north of Karratha and
 355 kilometres north northeast of Onslow
 and was moving west southwest at 17 kilometres per hour.

Very dangerous SEVERE TROPICAL CYCLONE GLENDA is expected to cross the coast
between Exmouth and Karratha, most likely Thursday afternoon or night.

Gales with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour are expected to develop on the
Pilbara coast this morning. As the cyclone approaches on Thursday, destructive
winds with gusts to 130 kilometres per hour are forecast,  becoming very
destructive with gusts to 265 kilometres an hour near the cyclone centre as it
crosses the coast.

Very destructive winds will extend to inland parts of the western Pilbara on
Thursday night and Friday as the system moves further south.

Residents between Karratha and Onslow are specifically warned of the potential
of a very dangerous storm tide as the cyclone centre crosses the coast. Tides
are likely to rise significantly above the normal high tide mark with very
dangerous flooding and damaging waves.
Widespread heavy rain and flooding are likely in the western Pilbara and western
Gascoyne over the next few days.

  Recent movement    : West southwest at 17 kilometres per hour.
  Central Pressure   : 925 hPa.

FESA-State Emergency Service advises of the following alerts:
RED ALERT: People in or near the communities of Point Samson, Wickham,
Roebourne, Karratha, Dampier and Mardie should move to shelter.
BLUE ALERT: People in or near communities between De Grey and Exmouth including
Port Hedland, South Hedland, Whim Creek, Pannawonica, Onslow and Exmouth should
start taking precautions.
