Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology
Northern Territory
Remarks:
The low remains slow moving and may develop into a TROPICAL CYCLONE this morning, before moving eastward toward the Top End of the Northern Territory.
GALES could affect coastal and island communities between Mitchell Plateau in Western Australia and Daly River Mouth in the Northern Territory this morning.
If the system were to take a more northeast track, there is the possibility that GALES could affect coastal and island communities between Daly River Mouth and Goulburn Island, including Darwin and the Tiwi Islands on Saturday.
Heavy rain is expected to cause flooding in the north Kimberley region today.
Name: Tropical Low

WARNING
SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
for Locally Destructive Wind gusts, Widespread Damaging Wind gusts, Heavy
Rainfall, Abnormally High Tides and Large Waves
for people in the Darwin-Daly, Roper-McArthur, Arnhem, and northern Victoria
River and northern Kimberley districts.
Issued at 5:19 am CST [4:49 am WDT] Friday 4 January 2008
Synoptic Situation: At 3:30 am CST [3:00 am WDT], an active monsoon trough lies
across the Top End with a low centred in the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf about 165 km
north northwest of Wyndham and 405 km west southwest of Darwin.
Locally destructive wind gusts to 120 km/h are possible with thunderstorms over
the southern Darwin-Daly and northern Kimberley districts. Damaging wind gusts
up to 90 km/h, large waves and abnormally high tides are expected along the

Victoria River and northern Kimberley districts is expected to cause significant
stream rises with possible flooding of low-lying areas.
The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should secure loose
outside objects and seek shelter when the conditions deteriorate.[Driving
conditions may be hazardous - avoid flooded roads and watercourses.][Abnormally
high tides could cause minor flooding at the coast.]

Vaya recorrido más raro que está haciendo el ciclón....... El Navy le da 45KT y 985 hPa... Siempre me sorprenden las presiones tan bajas para categorías de ciclón equivalentes en el Atlántico Norte.
