Big storm on Mediterranean sea (south Sicily-Gulf of Gabes).
Many thunderstorm and floods (over 200 mm)
wind over 50 kntes in south Sicily and the Ioniana sea.
Have a warm core.
ESTOFEX 13/01/09 : -Warning-Sicily, Malta, southern Italy, western Greece-
Active convective weather is found around the low pressure system between Tunesia and the Balkan. A plume of warm air surges into southern Italy and beyond, with 0-1 km theta-w values of 15°..
This is when the highest CAPE is present of about 1000 J/kg and capping is forecast to be weakest. Deep layer shear of 20-25 m/s is forecast over 0-6 km and 1-8 km, sufficient to sustain long-lived MCS and development of supercells. 0-3 km SREH is enhanced to >200 m²/s² and a factor of two higher at the warm front itself, where however predicted CAPE is lower or absent.
The main threat of the storms is large hail. Secondary is the possibility of isolated tornado occurrence, given 0-1 km shear is at least 10-15 m/s, relatively low LCL heights, and weak downdraft CAPE. The highest potential is over Sicily and southern Italy. Waterspouts are possible also in weaker shear.

This winter has been very active in the Mediterranean Sea. It's amazing the energy that is raising these huge storm waves.
It is a "tsunami sicilian"

Joder qué brutalidad :o :o :o Los arbolitos del paseo, por supuesto, para arrancarlos directamente. Y esos dos coches, pues la lata de furgoneta esa, aunque se oxide, no pasa nada. Pero el otro Peugeot, hay que echarle pelotas, porque como no lo lavara con agua corriente en un lavadero, ese coche es para la chatarra directamente :-X :-X :-X :-X

..ironic that you are thinking that this system is more interesting
than the others Ive been reporting for months.
In any case I have been watching this cyclone constantly day and
night since its origin, taking many pictures and archiving them just
like I usually do with all mediterranean Systems.
I posted many reports about it on several Italian sites (its not a
coincidence that 2 of the images posted by crostorm are my cuts).
Italian Members of this site know exaclty that I watch all
mediterranean systems and always report them.
If I havent posted on here this time is just beacuse members on this
site havent shown a great interest in Mediterranean systems, so I
thought it would not be valued.
