Canary Islands disturbanceA surface circulation has developed near 28N, 18W, over the Canary Islands near the coast of Africa. This system has been labeled Invest 97L by NHC this morning. QuikSCAT data from this morning shows this circulation nicely, and top winds of 30 mph were observed on the northwest side of the storm. Wind reports from the Canary Islands have thus far been below 15 mph, but winds at La Palma in the northwest portion of the chain may gust above 40 mph today as the storm moves southeast over the Canaries. Satellite imagery shows that the storm has lost most of its heavy thunderstorm activity this morning. Wind shear is 15-25 knots, and is expected to remain 15-25 knots over the next day. I don't expect 97L to develop into a tropical depression.

Aún así, estaremos muy atentos, por si acaso. G:
