Eric Holthaus @EricHolthaus 51 minWhat the storm will look like this time tomorrow, via the US Navy's forecast model: Ginormous.
WeatherIntense coastal storm developing as forecast off the Atlantic coast. Wind gusts to hurricane force possible late tonight and tomorrow morning over Cape Cod.
NOAA NWS Weather Prediction Center: Here's an interesting satellite image from a MODIS pass over the developing Atlantic storm a few hours ago. The bright orange/red colors on the image indicate where stratospheric air is descending into the troposphere as a result of such a strong upper-level disturbance (this is called a stratospheric intrusion). While this storm will stay largely offshore, effects will be felt along the Northeast U.S. coastline with the potential for snow and strong, gusty winds. Blizzard conditions are possible for portions of Cape Cod in Massachusetts as well as portions of Maine.
