More extreme precip/flash flooding in south #France. 2nd week in a row they've seen >2 month's rain in a few hours.

There have been a series of significant flash flooding events in southern parts of Spain and France in the past few weeks. Here is the "average" 500mb pattern from 15 September - 5 October. Persistent low or trough focused near Portugal.

And when you consider PWAT anomalies - an unusually moist air mass was in place over much of western Europe heavy rain & flash flooding in Languedoc region of srn France. 7.09"/2hr at Saint-Gervais-sur-Mare. Montdardier, France also picked up 10.75" (273mm) of rain in just five hours, equivalent to ~2 months of normal autumn rainfall. Montpellier, France flash flooding round one. 7.24" of rain observed in just 2 hours, 11.77" in 24 hours.

The 7.24" rain officially observed at Montpellier, France in 2hr is 40% of their normal annual rain (!).

Heavy rainfall and flash flooding also affected southern parts of Spain: Málaga, Almería, and Murcia
