NOAA NWS Weather Prediction Center: Here's an interesting satellite image from a MODIS pass over the developing Atlantic storm a few hours ago. The bright orange/red colors on the image indicate where stratospheric air is descending into the troposphere as a result of such a strong upper-level disturbance (this is called a stratospheric intrusion).
While this storm will stay largely offshore, effects will be felt along the Northeast U.S. coastline with the potential for snow and strong, gusty winds. Blizzard conditions are possible for portions of Cape Cod in Massachusetts as well as portions of Maine. Please refer to products from your local NWS Forecast Office for forecast details specific to your area. Visit our website at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov (http://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov) and click on Winter Weather to see our snowfall forecasts.

2 mesovórtices acompañando, y la impresión de que es posible observar el desacople de los centros de la depresión a distintos niveles de la atmósfera, como cuando un ciclón tropical es afectado por cizalladura.

Heard the term "meteorological bomb" before, but don't know what it is? The New England storm is a classic example!
